In the Shop Now

by: Ross Belovich, Shop Manager

At Pollock Auto Restoration metal repairs are quite common. Often the cars we are working on require hand forming and fabrication to duplicate the original.

In the past, most common production cars had panels stamped in very large presses that were able to reproduce many thousands or even millions of panels that, except for machine wear and tear, were exactly the same. Almost all of these machines were destroyed after production runs, and replacement panels of the same factory original quality are rare to non-existent. Many of the more rare and exotic cars were of low production and each one was made by hand. In this case, no two cars are exactly alike. Our expert technicians are able to recreate these panels using many of the same tools a shop would have used when the car was made the first time.
Quality metalworking is much more than beating a panel. One must understand the properties and techniques to retain strength and durability as well as corrosion resistance. Furthermore, welding is both an art and a science and critical to the finished product. Our technicians have extensive experience and the knowledge to produce quality, long lasting repairs of metals including aluminum, steel, brass, iron, stainless, and others and we have the equipment to fabricate most any need.

Model A Ford Day in Hellertown

by: Mike Engard, Owner of Pollock Auto Restoration

Even a bit of overnite rain didn’t dampen the Hellertown Model A Ford Day at the Grist Mill in Hellertown, PA. This is the 4th time that the Lehigh Valley Model A Ford Club, together with the Hellertown Historical Society, has brought Model A enthusiasts together from far and wide to enjoy Model A camaraderie, meeting friends and browsing the many parts available in the swap meet. Over 20 vendors had almost any part you’d need to keep your Ford running. One hundred and ten Fords turned out with a large group driving up from Maryland to attend and promote 2017 Model A Restorers National Meet in Gettysburg on July 30 thru August 4th.

Ford built around 5 million cars and light trucks during the 1928 through 1931 model years. This product line was such an improvement over the Model “T”, built during the previous 20 years, that Henry Ford decided to mark a new beginning by calling this “advanced” automobile the Model “A”. The simplicity and reliability of this popular model are still admired today. In fact, after 80+ years, hundreds of thousands of Model A’s still exist.
In the late 20’s America was beginning to embrace the multitude of uses of the automobile. Ford had over 30 official body styles for the Model A not including the specials like the 1929 Briggs Town Sedan that Pollock had restored and I was presenting at this event. While there I also learned to identify the cars by year as there are subtle differences in the grill shape, cowl lines, and bumper styles.

I’m looking forward to attending the national with this fine car which is for sale, so come out and buy it at a bargain price! For more information about the national, click here.

A Visit to the Audrain Museum

by: Dave Hutchison

Last month we delivered a Triumph Herald to a good client and friend of ours who lives in Kingston, RI. Over the last two years, all of the metal repairs, bodywork and paint along with body assembly was done here at Pollock Auto Restoration while our sister shop, Ragtops & Roadsters handled the mechanical restoration. We spent a day in and around Newport, RI and stopped in to visit the Audrain Automobile Museum located in downtown Newport. What a gem!
The museum is located in the Audrain building in downtown Newport that was transformed into a beautiful showroom to display about 15 cars. Established in 2014 they feature three exhibitions a year as Executive Director, David de Muzio and his staff pull their cars from a privately held collection of about 200 cars owned by its founder, so there is always something fresh to see. From brass era to supercars they are all in an exhibition presented as an art-form.
The current "Drop Dead Drop Top" Exhibition, running through June 24th, features a one-off Bugatti Veyron painted to pay homage to the 1928 Bugatti Type 37A raced by Pierre Veyron. We suggest you visit their website and sign up for their emails so you can stop in to pay a visit when you are in Newport. You will not be disappointed!

Spring Carlisle

By: Kim Spiece

Spring Carlisle is always a good time. The show and flea market had everything from antiques, classic and collector cars, to new and used parts from various vendors including a selection of highly desirable vintage gas and oil advertising collectibles and memorabilia. Held each year, the third week in April for 5 days, Spring Carlisle is the destination for car lovers from around the world. Wheelers and dealers came in from all over hoping to snag that specialty part or a rare great find. Over 500 cars crossed the block this year at the auction, with the top selling car being a 1992 Ferrari 512 TR that fetched over $160,000.  Pictured below, the green Oakland and beige Lincoln were just a few of the cars that were for sale a very reasonable prices. Spring Carlisle car show and flea market is now in its 41st year, offering 82 acres with 8100 swap meet spaces, a car corral, and collector auction. Regardless of the rainy weather, the event was well attended. Nine more events remain in 2017. Click here more Carlisle Events!
