Polishing Perfection

by: Ross Belovich, Shop Manager

Watch out for the glare! We have just completed the final polishing of this panel and added the lettering. To achieve the highest gloss finish, we start out with the best quality products. Then the paint must be cured before hand sanding with very fine grit sandpaper. It then undergoes multiple stages of buffing with a machine and a final going over by hand. This is a very labor intensive process, yet necessary for the best finish attainable.

Duryea Days

The Museum’s 51st Annual Duryea Day Antique & Classic Car & Truck Show and Flea Market was held on September 3 in Boyertown Community Park.  We’re happy to report that 627 show vehicles were registered this year! The weather could also not have been better for both spectators and vehicle owners.  As always, Duryea Day brings a wide array of years, makes, and models, which makes it a truly unique car show. Pollock Auto Restoration was there and we caught this shot of Mike Engard driving the golf cart built by Bill Pollock.

We are also pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Museum Choice Awards in eight different categories:

  • Antique Pre War Car: 1939 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible (Owners David & Lisa Helmer)
  • Antique Post War Car: 1955 Buick Special 2 Door Coupe (Owner Pete Gipprich)
  • Antique Commercial Truck: 1967 International R190 (Owner Michael Yarnell)
  • Antique Pickup Truck: 1931 Ford Model A (Owners Jim & Georgia Dixen)
  • Street Rod: 1946 Ford Business Coupe (Owner Dale Kline)
  • Street Machine: 1964 Studebaker Challenger (Owner Paul Lausch)
  • Sports Car: 1952 MG TD (Owner Lee Ahrens)
  • Antique Motorcycle: 1965 Harley Davidson FLH (Owner Brad Bingham)
The Museum is also pleased to announce that Paul Wolfmeyer and his 1956 Chrysler Windsor was awarded the Beatrice Landis Memorial Award.

A “THANK YOU” to all who attended the show this year, and we hope to see you again in 2017.  Many thanks also to all the volunteers who gave their time staffing the entry gates, the Museum tent, parking cars, registering participants, acting as tour guides at the Museum, setting up the Park, and performing the many other tasks that need to be completed in order for Duryea Day to run smoothly.  As always, we could not have this show without all the help from our friends in the Pottstown Region AACA.

Radnor Concours

The Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance celebrated their 20th anniversary with three days of activities beginning with the Friday evening Barbecue, followed by the always popular Road Rally through the scenic countryside of Chester County on Saturday morning, culminating in a catered lunch. The Saturday evening Black Tie Gala, Silent Auction and Art Show Preview was the prelude to the main event, the Concours d' Elegance on Sunday. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, over 20 previous Concours and First Class Winners again graced the lawns of the Radnor Hunt Club along with the iconic 300 SL from Mercedes Benz.  Both the A.C.Ace and the Lotus Super Seven restored by Pollock Auto Restoration were invited to be on the field for the day.
For the Best of Show Sporting Marque the award went to the 1958 Ferrari 250 LWB "Tour de France" Competizione Scaglietti of Roy Brod. The Best of Show was the 1931 Marmon Sixteen Convertible Sedan of Richard Driehaus.Congratulations!

St. Michaels Concours d' Elegance

Pollock Auto Restoration was pleased to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the St. Michaels Concours d' Elegance with its relocation back to St. Michaels. This year's Concours took place at the Fog Cove Landing waterfront portion of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. All proceeds from the event benefit the new Classic Motor Museum of St. Michaels.

We were invited to show the 1937 Railton Fairmile 3-posistion Coupe that we restored for Tom Wilson of Germantown, Tenn. We joined the event tour at the new Classic Motor Museum and proceeded, with 30 beautiful classic cars, to drive the wooded backroads of St Michaels, Tilghman and Royal Oak to a beautiful estate and horse farm. There we enjoyed food, music and camaraderie followed by a leisurely return drive complete with police escort.
On Sunday the Concours was very enjoyable. In a smaller and more intimate setting it was easy to spend time looking at all the cars and talking with the owners to learn more about their unique cars. The Railton was awarded a Class Win alongside many other stunning antiques concluding with the 1928 Auburn Speedster that won both People’s Choice and the judge’s choice for Best of Show! A very nice event at a wonderful venue and we look forward to being invited to attend again next year.
